Ken Wood was born on November 7, 1988 and grew up in Spokane, Washington. On the University High School football team, Ken Wood was a punter and receiver in addition to serving as team captain. Ken Wood averaged 39.4 yards per kick as a senior; his longest kick was 64 yards. Ken Wood's tallies as a senior receiver were strong. He pulled in 26 balls totaling 392 yards and 4 touchdowns.
As a senior, Ken Wood made 100% of his field goals. Off the football field, he also earned two letters for soccer and a single letter in track and field.
Ken Wood next headed to the University of Montana where he redshirted his freshman year in 2007. In 2008, Ken Wood was a strong player who averaged 41 yards a kick, placing him 20th in the U.S. Ken Wood transferred to Texas A&M in 2009, where he played in six games solely as a punter. Ken Wood tallied 38.8 yards a punt and and seven of his kick made it all the way inside the 20.
