Billy Chavis is recognized as one of the state’s most versatile athlete. Chavis had experience playing multiple positions in high school including quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, linebacker and safety. The Aggies football team primarily used Billy Chavis as a linebacker, but head coach Mike Sherman made plans to use Billy Chavis in the tight end position.
Billy Ray Chavis was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 9, 1988. Billy Chavis was coached by Texas A&M alumni Craig Stump at Westbrook High School. Stumps influence was one of the reasons Chavis choose the Texas A&M Aggies football program. While Billy Chavis was at Westbrook High School he received many honors which included 5A honorable mention all-state, first-team all-District 21-5A, first-team all-district, 2 time member of the Port Arthur News’ Super Team and was rated #30 in the state by Scout.com. As a senior, Billy Chavis made 98 tackles and five sacks.
In 2007, Billy Chavis played eight games for Texas A&M as a true freshman. The 6’4” 233 lbs linebacker made three solo tackles and forced a fumble against Miami in the Orange Bowl. #10 played in three games for the Aggies during the 2008 Aggies season. Billy Chavis made tackles against Kansas and Baylor Bears.
