More Info
At the Texas A&M University there is a group of five students that call themselves the Fighting Texas Aggie Yell Leaders. The Yell Leader group is elected each year by the student body and they are the official spirit organization of the University.
The Yell Leaders lead the Aggie fans during Texas A&M University athletic events and various school events throughout the year. Instead of performing gymnastic acts, like backhand springs or tumbling, the Yell Leaders use an assortment of hand signals to rile up the crowd. In 1999, First Yell was established by the Yell Leaders as a way to welcome the Aggies back to campus for the new year.
The Yell Leaders have a tradition of a Midnight Yell practice the night before the new football season begins. The Friday before the Midnight Yell practice, the Yell Leaders host a performance of students and world class entertainers alike. The student performers include the Percussion Studio and the Singing Cadets, while the big entertainers have been Bill Cosby, Bill Engvall and Jeff Foxworthy.
The history behind the Yell Leaders goes back to 1907, when the school was an all-male military college. Throughout the years, the Yell Leaders have evolved into a team of five upper classmen- three seniors and two juniors. Its not uncommon for the voting of these five to be higher than the Student Body President elections. The school spirit that the Texas Aggies is outstanding and you don’t want to miss out on an experience like this.
